Monitoring water quality, and thus values such as water temperature, pH, oxygen, redox, conductivity or salinity are crucial in aquaculture. We present proposals for complete sensor systems and regulating and control equipment for specific applications, such as recirculation systems and live fish transport, among others. Check out our proposals and find out how to reduce production costs, optimise processes and increase the safety of farmed fish and shellfish.
All over the world, various species of fish and crustaceans are farmed in commercial aquacultures: in ponds, breeding tanks, net pens and net cages.
Parameters such as temperature, conductivity, salinity, dissolved oxygen or pH of the water in aquacultures are critical to the health of the aquatic organisms being farmed. Only precise control will allow their rapid growth and efficient harvesting.
Populations of fish and other aquatic organisms are kept in breeding tanks and farm ponds under controlled conditions outside their natural environment in closed recirculation systems.
Dirty water is recirculated and returned to the tank after disinfection with UV light or ozone. Oxygen content, temperature, pH level, redox value, dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide and conductivity must be checked and corrected before the water is recirculated. Poor water quality is bad for fish health in fish production.
The quality of the water returned to the tank after recirculation must be carefully monitored so as not to expose the fish to disease and stress
For this application, we recommend the sensors from the JUMO tecLine and digiLine series in cooperation with the mTRON T PLC for complete system control. Oxygen consumption and temperature, but also water quality-relevant parameters such as pH value and salt content, are collected in a single system and directly available for additional control processes. It is possible to integrate up to 62 digital sensors in the bus system with the JUMO mTRON T for liquid analysis.
Lower maintenance costs - the service life of the sensors can be extended thanks to the integrated salt rings of the JUMO tecLine pH and redox electrodes
Unlimited possibilities - with JUMO mTRON T, 62 JUMO digiLine sensors can be integrated into a single system to control large plants.
Simple calibration - JUMO digiLine sensors can be easily and conveniently calibrated using the JUMO DSM (Digital Sensor Management) PC software at locations such as the laboratory.
This is what a complete water quality management system for recirculation systems can look like
Fish are often reared in hatcheries under optimal climatic conditions and then transported to aquaculture farms where they continue to grow. In order for them to survive during transport, optimal oxygen supply and stable temperature conditions are essential. In addition, it is necessary to constantly monitor the water quality in the transport tanks so that harmful amounts of metabolic products do not accumulate.
Oxygen concentration and temperature must be monitored simultaneously in each tank. The measurement and control units of the JUMO AQUIS touch series allow the connection of up to six JUMO digiLine O-DO digital oxygen sensors. The temperature can be read out using the temperature probe integrated into the sensor.
With the JUMO Device App and an Ethernet connection, the driver can transparently track all measured values on his smartphone or tablet at any time. Alarm messages, such as non-compliance or exceeding a limit value, can be sent as encrypted SMS messages via an external modem.
Reduced wiring and installation work - thanks to the JUMO digiLine functionality, a master cable is all that is required for communication between sensors and transmitters.
Oxygen sensor immediately ready for use - the JUMO oxygen sensor is pre-calibrated
Constant updating of process data - thanks to the JUMO Device App
The JUMO measuring system for transport tanks allows remote access to water quality data. You can also receive alarm messages and keep your tanks under control while you are anywhere in the world.
Saltwater fish and shellfish farming has become a huge industry in recent years. All over the world, aqua farms are being built along the coasts. The result is an ever-increasing demand for space.
By integrating modern JUMO interfaces, reliable data communication between sensors and measuring device, tamper-proof recording of measurement and process data, as well as data transfer to higher-level control systems or mobile devices is possible.
The modular JUMO AQUIS touch S measurement and control system in combination with the JUMO digiLine O-DO optical oxygen sensor provides continuous and reliable measurement data in real time. Temperature values can also be checked via the sensor's digital interface. With the conclusions from the monitoring of these two parameters, it is possible to optimise the feeding processes of the fish, both in terms of quantity and time of feeding.
Additional sensors can also be connected to the JUMO AQUIS touch S PID controller to provide information about the environmental conditions inside and outside the individual cages by determining values such as pH, conductivity or turbidity.
